Montreux musical history in 1971
1971 was marked by the fire which destroyed the casino on December 4 at a concert of Frank Zappa. Deep Purple were there. They had come to Montreux to record their album "Machine Head". They spontaneously composed "Smoke on the Water" and Claude Nobs got his nickname "Funky Claude".
Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin are coming back for two shows to the delight of their fans.

Just 3 months after taking this picture showing Aretha Franklin, King Curtis and Led Zeppelin (on an accidental double film exposure), 36-year-old King Curtis was stabbed to death in New York September 13, 1971.
