Barbara Hendriks and Montreux

Barbara Hendriks is born in 1948 at Stephens, USA, she gives her first public concert in 1974, at the San Francisco Opera.

She starts then an international career by playing Suzanne's role in the Wedding of Figaro and sings at the biggest operas as Scala or Opéra de Paris. Barbara Hendriks is interpreting various operas as The Magic Flute by Mozart, The French Melodies or Mélisande by Debussy.

But she does not only sing classical music, but gets involved with Jazz, in 1994, at the Montreux Jazz Festival.

Living in Europe, more precisely in Clarens near Montreux, since 1977, she married first to Martin Engström, her agent, with whom she has two children and who is the founder of the Verbier Festival. Divorced by Martin Engström in 1998, Barbara Hendricks remarried with Ulf Englund in 2003, a Swedish lighting designer too.
