Montreux Statues & Monuments
The founder of the Montreux Jazz Festival Claude Nobs has now his statue which was inaugurated on July 2, 2017 at 5pm. Offered to the Montreux Municipality by the Swiss sculptor Andreas Altmann, the statue was unveiled on the occasion of the traditional official reception given by the city every year in honor of the festival.
The artwork was installed in the gardens of the Montreux Palace. Claude Nobs joined other musicians, artists and friends as Quincy Jones, Ella Fitzgerald or Carlos Santana. It is the result of an initiative of the Montreux Jazz Festival Foundation and the Claude Nobs Foundation.
For Montreux, says the mayor Laurent Wehrli, "this statue has a special symbolic signification : it represents an additional way to honor the memory of Claude Nobs".
This is a new tribute, following the establishment of the Claude Nobs Avenue in 2013 and the inauguration of Funky Claude's Bar in 2014 at the Montreux Palace. He was also named Bourgeois of honor of the city.
The founder of the festival died in 2013 at the age of 76. He was at the head of this international musical event for nearly half a century.
