Montreux Statues & Monuments
Inauguration of the bust of Richard Strauss May 11th, 2013 on the quai de Vernex, in front of the Auditorium Stravinski (and in front of the bust of Miles Davis...), in the presence of HE the German Ambassador and the Authorities of Montreux.
The monument, donated by the Friends of Richard Strauss, is the work of the sculptor Bernard Bavaud.
Richard Strauss (1864-1949) composed in Montreux, two years before his death, the Double Concertino for Clarinet and Bassoon, with string orchestra and harp.
The same year, he met Hermann Hesse (Nobel of literature), who lived in Switzerland. On his texts he orchestrated three of his "Vier Letzte Lieder". He also composed a fourth at Montreux-Palace, "Im Abendrot".
In 1949, he stayed at Clinique Florimont before returning to the Palace. He was to die in Garmisch in September of the same year.
Richard Strauss's statue is located at Quai de Vernex, in front of the Auditorium Stravinski and was Donated by Richard Strauss's Friends
